The Maine Coon is America's native longhair cat; it evolved naturally in response to the New England climat. They are tall, muscular, big-boned cats. Highly people-oriented. Big, gentle, good-natured goofs. Don't forget to feel the unique texture and 'shag' of the coat. The most common inherited health problems are hip displasia and cardiomyopathy though.
